Forensic Mapping

This is a course that has been developed to provide Collision Reconstructionists/Analysts or Forensic Identification Officers with the basic skills necessary to properly document a crime scene or collision scene with a Total Station & Data Collector. This is an essential course for those agencies/individuals that depend on accuracy to document scenes and create diagrams. Candidates will receive lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises. 

Topics Include:

Basic Theory of a Total Station Survey Instrument 

Basic Operation of a Data Collector 

Downloading principals 


Details: 

Students will receive a manual. Students are expected to bring clothing suitable for outdoor measuring exercises.

In order to successfully complete this course, the student must be present for all lectures.  A written examination will be administered that has a passing grade of 75 percent. Students will receive a certificate.

Students are cautioned not to make travel arrangements prior to 4 pm on the final day. 

Prerequisites: Basic understanding of scene measurement techniques using tape measures and  your own instrument (We can arrange rentals for an additional cost.)
